Galatea presents at Art Basel Miami Beach 2023 the project titled Allan Weber: Dealing Art, a solo by the nominee for the 2023 Pipa Prize who is gaining prominence in the contemporary art scene in Brazil. 

 

Weber’s work creates an unprecedented encounter between references from the everyday life in Rio de Janeiro's shanty towns, and elements of the constructivist tradition that heavily influenced 20th-century Brazilian art. 

 

This project showcases photographs, objects, and geometric compositions that trace Weber's artistic journey since 2020. It all began with the photo series Tamo junto não é gorjeta [We're in This Together Isn’t a Tip] (2020), captured during his time as an app delivery driver in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. His primary interest lies in approaching, with originality and formal precision, the intricate, contradictory, and confrontational—both in material and symbolic sense—context of the Rio de Janeiro slums as well as the life experiences of its residents.
