Frieze Masters 2025 | Cildo Meireles: Luisa Strina + Galatea | Londres – Inglaterra
Galatea is pleased to announce its participation in Frieze Masters, taking place from October 15th to 19th, 2025, in Regent’s Park, London, England. In partnership with Luisa Strina, the gallery will present a solo booth dedicated to Cildo Meireles (1948), showcasing a selection of drawings, objects, sculptural and installation works produced between 1967 and 2019. Through works such as Metros II - 6B [Meters II - 6B] (1977–1993) and Projeto Coca-Cola [Coca-Cola Project], from the series Inserções em circuitos ideológicos [Insertions into Ideological Circuits] (1970), the presentation addresses the key themes and aspects that permeate Meireles’ production, highlighting his critique of systems of power, measurement, and language. By exploring the tension between substance and symbol, the conceptual density of his works has consolidated him as one of the most important figures in Brazilian art over the past five decades.
Born in Rio de Janeiro and raised in Brasília, Meireles witnessed the construction of the new capital, an experience that deeply shaped his perspective on architecture, modernism, and power. Beginning in the 1960s, his practice has encompassed drawings, paintings, objects, and installations that challenge conventions of perception and legibility, questioning themes such as the relationship between body and politics, institutionalized violence, and the limits of language. Over the course of his career, he has participated in several editions of the Venice Biennale, the São Paulo Biennial, and Documenta in Kassel, in addition to retrospectives at Museo Reina Sofía in Madrid and Tate Modern in London. His works are part of major collections including MoMA, the Guggenheim, Tate, Inhotim, and the Pinacoteca de São Paulo, affirming his central position in the international contemporary art scene.
