Fazer o moderno, construir o contemporâneo: Rubem Valentim: Inhotim, Minas Gerais | curated by: Lucas Menezes and Igor Simões

Overview

Co-curated by Lucas Menezes and guest curator Igor Simões, the exhibition presents works from different periods of Rubem Valentim (1922–1991), from painting to reliefs, objects and screen-printed emblems.

The works displayed cover over thirty years of the artist’s production, with many pieces part of the Inhotim Institute’s collection, as well as works provided by the Museu de Arte Moderna da Bahia, the Museu de Arte Contemporânea de São Paulo and the Museu de Arte da Pampulha.

Also part of the exhibition are works by artists who are close to Rubem Valentim, intersecting his artistic work, such as Mestre Didi, Rosana Paulino, Emanoel Araujo, Jaime Lauriano, Rebeca Carapiá, Allan Weber, Bené Fonteles, Rubiane Maia, Froiid and Jorge dos Anjos, including works commissioned by the last two artists mentioned.

Make the modern, build the contemporary: Rubem Valentim is part of the Abdias Nascimento and the Black Art Museum Program cycle at Inhotim and also brings the proposal for a studio space at the Lago Gallery, which will be activated through an educational program by the Educativo Inhotim.
